A little less than a year ago, Candam marked a milestone with the launch of its first project in the Middle East, specifically in Sharjah. Today, we are pleased to share the final results of this innovative initiative that has transformed the way Sharjah residents recycle.
Project impact and keys to success
During the course of the project, a total of 21.670 packaging containers were recycled, with the participation of 166 users. Plastic packaging was the most recycled, followed by carton bricks, cans and finally glass.
The reward scheme was a crucial component of the project’s success.
Prizes on offer included Nespresso machines, gift cards and tickets to sporting events.
This system incentivized users to actively participate in recycling, demonstrating that offering attractive incentives can significantly increase participation.
Diversifying the available rewards played an important role in maintaining participants’ interest and engagement
The communication campaign carried out was another essential element for the success of the project. Informing residents about the project and its benefits through various channels ensured high participation and understanding of the RecySmart system. This effective communication strategy helped to consolidate environmental awareness in the community.
Finally, an increase in the quality of the material collected has been evidenced, demonstrating the effectiveness of the RecySmart technology and the application of reward schemes (RAYT).

We would like to thank our partners BEEAH and Sheraa, and the Sharjah community, for their participation and support in this project. Together we have taken a big step towards a more sustainable future.
